TREIA WEST Sizzles at Golden Corral~ Monday!

Don’t miss the TREIA West meeting this Monday, May 21 at the Golden Corral on Highway 55 in Durham. We have two speakers for the evening, that are a MUST SEE!
The first speaker is Scott Selig, Associate Vice President for Capital Assets and Real Estate at Duke University. Scott is charged with developing the overall real estate strategy for space leased by Duke University and the Duke University Health System. The portfolio managed by the Real Estate office contains more than 220 leases covering 2.5 million square feet of office, medical clinic, laboratory, and warehouse space. Scott will be talking about the current and future plans for the Duke Real Estate office. Scott has been a real estate broker, developer, and investor.
Our second speaker is Christine Ryan, Ombudsman, Office of the Commissioner for Small Business, NC Department of Commerce. Christine has a wealth of information about resources that are available for the solo-preneur and small businesses, yes even real estate investors. Come with your “Where do I find?” or your “Who should I contact?” questions. Christine is a wealth of information.
And of course, third up, our Mystery Sizzle Speaker. 
Networking will start at 6:00pm with the program starting at 6:30pm. You must buy a delicious Golden Corral buffet (includes that chocolate waterfall dessert thing) to attend.

Our second speaker will show you how to get a 2% rebate on your Home Depot day to day (non-large project) purchases. Our third speaker will explain how to draw up a site plan on your own. 1. Dos & Don’ts for Investors/Landlords – Norm Praet, Esq. will be providing some valuable advice regarding the common everyday situations we face as investors/landlords. What can you say about your tenant when called for a reference? Can you turn off the utilities if the tenant is in arrears on the rent, or was supposed to take over the utilities and didn’t? Do you have to register any of your efforts to raise funds for your investments? Come and learn some dos and don’ts!
2. Did you know that as a member of TREIA you have access to the National REIA benefits? – Patrick Curley will provide information in particular on the various insurance plans available to TREIA members through our association with the National REIA.

TREIA West: A Look at The Durham Periodic Rental Inspection Program

At this Monday’s TREIA West meeting, Constance Stancil, the Director of Neighborhood Improvement Services for Durham, will be returning to talk about the proposed Periodic Rental Inspection Program.
She’ll also cover the Boarded Structure Remediation Program and talk about incentives for Investors to rehabilitate some of these homes in Durham.

Be sure to add this one to your calendar as our speaker will cover the new Nc offer to Purchase and contract. On January 1, 2011 a new contract form was rolled out, which includes a lot of changes affecting due diligence dates and other items affecting real estate purchases. As investors, you should be aware of these changes so that you’ll know how to write competitive offers and what to expect from buyers’ offers when you selling a property.
Tony Craver is a 10 year participant on the NC Realtor forms committee and will be present to walk you through the new contract, and answer any other forms questions you may have. His bio is below. We look forward to seeing you on the 28th!
