TREIA Founder Laura Farrell’s

Workshop For New Real Estate Investors

Two Saturdays this month on:

Getting Started
as a Real Estate Investor!

Laura Farrell is one of the founders of Triangle Real Estate Investor’s Association and served as our first President (1997).

She has been investing in real estate since 1992, worked as a mortgage lender for eight years and has a background in data collection for assessments, appraising properties for property tax appeals and property renovations.  Laura has her brokers license in New York, as well as North Carolina and has been teaching real estate licensing, continuing education, professional development, real estate marketing and real estate investing for over 16 years.

Laura has consulted with real estate firms, real estate investors and business Entrepreneurs throughout the United States, helping them to streamline their business and maximize their profits.

In 1992, as a single parent with four children, bad credit and no experience, Laura purchased her first investment property,  a duplex, with $150 cash out of her pocket…. and sold it four hours later, making $4,000 profit.  And she never looked back.    You can too!   This is the perfect market for buyers!  Learn how to do it right, while the opportunity is there and your cash needs are minimal.  Laura will help you through the process in a clear, concise, easy to understand, format…. that can help you get on the road to real estate success now!

Laura takes beginning investors through a two part process. The first Saturday she will share in detail her secrets for how she got started, what she said to people, and how she finds properties. The second Saturday will be a detailed session on working the numbers, or how to determine if a property can work or be made to work.

American IRA, a self-directed IRA service provider, brought their office from Asheville, NC to the North Raleigh Hilton on Saturday, March 31 to teach the guests and members of TREIA that there are options for retirement.  While talks of securities, stocks and rates can make the typical person’s eyelids droop, this presentation took a different direction and touched on two topics that lit up the eyes in the room: money and real estate investing.

What? My IRA Can Buy Real Estate?

Yes, you can use your mad skills in real estate investing to grow your retirement account. Exciting, considering that most of us don’t know there is an option outside of a standard 401K.  It’s called ‘self-directed’; and, just as the name implies, the account is directed by you and your investment choices.

There are limitations: the IRS won’t let you buy a vintage bottle of wine or that 100-year-old rug you found at an antique auction (see IRS code 4975 for a list of more no-no’s). However, the list of items you can purchase is much longer and includes trust deeds and mortgage notes, rental property, condos, raw land, lease options, gold and silver, joint ventures, promissory notes, LLC shares, and tax liens.

TREIA Tax Lien Saturday Seminar

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Tax Lien Investing on Steroids!

The first TREIA Investor Series for 2012 will feature Corey Taylor and Tom DiAgostino of Fortris LLC  (www.FortrisEducation.com) presenting an overview of TAX LIEN INVESTING at a Saturday seminar on March 3rd. Corey and Tom will expand their talk from the February 21st main meeting to go into more depth on their methods to make much bigger profits with tax liens than simply collecting interest and penalties.

Some states make it easier than others to invest in tax liens.  They will explain the differences.  North Carolina law makes it tough for the savvy investor to do much but collect interest and penalties on tax liens, unless you know the inside story.  They will show how to acquire these properties in North Carolina.

You will also learn:

  • how to generate double-digit rates of return on tax lien certificates
  • how to acquire properties for pennies on the dollar!
  • the best states for buying tax lien certificates; best states for buying tax lien deeds
  • how to sell traditionally; sell on eBay; sell on other online sources
  • how to buy to rehab, wholesale, buy and hold; how to buy vacant land and other deals
  • how tax liens can be better than short sales; better than foreclosures; even better than a motivated seller

FORGET what you have heard on TV – this is the real nitty-gritty of tax lien investing!

 Date:

Saturday, March 3, 2012
Check-in – 8:30
Seminar   – 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM
